Using Perific external energy meters
eMabler DLM supports external energy meters to manage EV charging more efficiently. Instead of relying only on charger meter values, it also considers the building's total power consumption. This tutorial explains how to use the Perific energy meters.
The external energy meter should be installed to measure the total power consumption of the entire site, including both EV chargers and other electrical loads. eMabler calculates the external load by subtracting the total EV charging load from the meter’s reported values.
Navigate to the DLM settings
- Click "DLM" under the Site menu.
Scroll down and click "Add external metering"
Enter a unique Meter ID
- The Meter ID must be globally unique within the eMabler platform.
- A good practice is to include your organization name in the ID.
- Example:
eMabler-Headquarters-Garage-1
.
Select the meter manufacturer
- Choose ENEGIC or PERIFIC.
Set the Energy Consumption Threshold
- This value defines when the site's maximum charging current should be reduced based on external load.
- Example:
- The external meter reports 30A usage on all phases.
- The total charging load from all chargers is 8A.
- The calculated external load is 30A - 8A = 22A.
- If the threshold is 25A, the site’s maximum current remains unchanged.
- If the external load increases by 3A or more, charging current is reduced.
- Note: The eMabler system compares only the highest phase value against the threshold. If any single phase exceeds the threshold, the system will take action.
Set the Reduction Value
- Defines how much the site's maximum amperage should be lowered if the external load exceeds the threshold.
- This value is substracted from the site Max Current Value. If the Max Current of the site is usually 50A, having the reduction value as 20A will set the Max Current to temporarily be 30A while the external load is high.
Set the Safe Offline Value
- If the external meter goes offline, the system lowers the site's max amperage by this amount.
- If this value matches the site’s max current, charging is completely disabled when the meter is offline.
Configure the Perific Monitor
- Follow the setup instructions in the Perific App.
